The Australian skipper has claimed 309 Test scalps in 71 five-day games with an stellar bowling average.
Australia's selection chief the selector has confirmed that captain Pat Cummins will have a crucial role in the forthcoming historic rivalry.
There were concerns that the veteran bowler might miss the series due to a persistent back stress problem that had not yet healed.
Initial reports from team management suggested no official announcement had been made regarding Cummins' participation, with the extended contest scheduled to begin on 21 November in the WACA.
He revealed that his recovery is on track and remained hopeful about the prospects of taking part.
"We know that the window is narrowing and there are permutations around that, aside from the back issue, but additional elements," the selector added.
"It's positive. [We are] really confident that he will feature a major part. Ideally starting in Perth. Should that not happen, we'll adjust."
Past Concerns
He was sidelined Australia's limited-overs series against New Zealand and India recently after examinations confirmed a lumbar bone stress.
He has a history of recurring issues, with flare-ups in 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2015-16 causing him to miss three Australian summers in a short span.
He emphasized he would be ""aggressive" and "take risks" in his recovery plan to ensure his availability for the contest.
He mentioned that there was no confirmation if the captain had resumed bowling as part of his comeback but conceded it was "pressing" for him to regain fitness for the opener.
Alternative Arrangements
In case of absence, ex-skipper Smith will lead the side.
Versatile player Green was withdrawn recently from the ODI lineup for their limited-overs matches against India as a safety move because of an abdominal issue.
The selector characterized it as a "small issue and mentioned that he'll feature in the state-level matches, so will be "in a good place to resume bowling."
"Extensive planning has gone into developing the strategy for him to participate for the opening match as an batting and bowling option," the selector detailed.
"He was only going to play the starting games anyway. How he handles the bat in limited-overs, even if it just sets him back for another day, we just made the decision to take a cautious route."
